A Lesson In Proper Bible Study and Formation of Doctrine

Ever since the addition of chapters and verses into the Bible, men have ignored the actual context of Scripture and proof-texted random isolated individual verses, attempting to tie them together with other random isolated individual verses, in order to formulate their doctrines.

Unless the surrounding context for each random isolated individual verse is the same, the two random isolated individual verses have nothing in common and are not related in any way, shape, or form. It is the creation of false teachings and false doctrines.

If I wrote over ten letters to different individuals or groups of people, you could not take random isolated individual sentences from each of my letters and try to tie them together with other random isolated individual sentences that seem to talk about the same thing. That is called Collapsing Context; joining different verses together because they share a similar word. By joining several random isolated individual sentences from my letters because they share a similar word, you are making me say, and teach, things that I never said or taught.

This is what men have been doing with God's Word ever since the addition of chapters and verses—proof-texting it to support whatever subjective feelings and opinions they hold to in their mind. We are to submit and subject ourselves to the Scriptures, reforming and conforming ourselves and our beliefs accordingly. God's Word never submits and subjects itself to us, our culture, our ethnicity, our feelings, our opinions, our proclivities, or anything else!
